Oh boy! I’m pumped to share our latest podcast episode with our special guest, Dr. Joylin Namie (listen below or go to Soundcloud). Joylin is a vibrant, hilarious, athletic, non-conformist, and candid woman. As a secular woman, she experienced the Mormon culture first hand as a former professor in Utah (she now resides in Oregon). She was formerly Associate Professor of Anthropology in the Behavioral Science Department at Utah Valley University. She is the director of Drinking Gold, a documentary film exploring the confluence of plastic surgery, religion, and popular culture among Mormon women in Utah. Her article on the topic garnered the award for Best Paper in the Social Science division of the Utah Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters for 2013. It was an honor to interview her.
